Mwanzo’s Playground

Scouting, sports, and after-school activities are a central part of life at Mwanzo Wetu Center of Excellence Academy, bringing joy and relaxation to their busy lives and helping students develop as whole human beings. Providing our schoolchildren a space for play is part and parcel of caring holistically for their growth. What a joy!

Students used to play on the land next to the school for recess, outdoor school sports, and ad hoc gatherings. This land is now the site of the under-construction Community Center. Once construction began, Mwanzo began renting undeveloped land near the school.

With support from our donors and sponsors, Mwanzo was able to purchase portable playground equipment, to turn this empty land into playfields and a playground for the children, especially the preschool and primary grade students.

After acquiring the supplies, a local technician worked on building and welding soccer posts, a merry-go-round, ladders and slides, swings, a see-saw, and netball poles. The technician was very happy to have a job at an important time for him. The money that he got from this work allowed him to bring his daughter to high school admission and pay for her tuition. Mwanzo touches many lives.

Our country manager Jonathan said that it is amazing to see how fast the students run from class to the playground during their physical education times. Head teacher Margaret reports, “It is a boost to us as the children are really enjoying themselves and not wanting to miss school if they think about merry-go-rounds and swings, especially the ECD classes. Thank you once again for the gift.”
