Education is the cornerstone of Mwanzo’s work, and the students we serve are the future of Rabuor village. Most of the children in the area (and their immediate families and guardians) have had their lives upended by the impact of HIV/AIDS. Many have lost their support systems to the disease, or live with it themselves. For these children, school provides a reliable, safe, and nurturing atmosphere – a place where they can count on nutritious food, basic medication, and caring supervision.

Mwanzo operates a high-quality preschool which provides a full-day education for children from 3-5 years of age, along with grades 1 and 2. Over 170 children attend. In addition to state-of-the-art instruction and two warm meals each day, students are given vaccinations, basic medical services, and each child is ensured a valid birth certificate.

At the request of parents, the Mwanzo Education Center was built in 2006 to further serve the children of Rabuor and surrounding communities as they grow and continue through grade school. Since 2015, Mwanzo and our partners in Rabuor have undertaken massive expansion of the existing school, in order to meet the growing needs of the community. This expansion is currently about 40% complete, and by the end of 2017 we hope to complete a 2-story building which will furnish a full primary education through grade 8 for close to 300 students.

Our students are enthusiastic, joyful, and reflect the heart of the communities we serve.
